Achieving business success requires more than a knack for sales or the ability to build and promote a website. In order to succeed, you need an entrepreneurial mindset that focuses on working smarter, not harder. That’s why entrepreneurs thrive on challenges and working towards a goal.

And with your own business, there are no two ways about it: You’re going to have to work hard in order to see results. After all, you’ll have to execute every day as if it were your first – otherwise, you risk getting comfortable and letting your productivity slip. Here are 2 skills every entrepreneur needs in order to get the results they want.

First, to have an extremely high standard of excellence and pride in what you do.

It’s absolutely one of the biggest things that stick out with entrepreneurs or leaders: that they have a consistent need to be excellent in every area that they do. Real entrepreneurs are the people who don’t want their names on stuff they know is not excellent or great.

You need to have that inner drive; no matter what you do, what regard you’ll get, or how much money you can make, you want to be able to look back and say, “I’m very proud of this work or this effort that I put in.” This is a really great skill to look out for.

The second one is more skill-based. Entrepreneurship is all about communication.

You need to learn how to communicate both verbally and in writing. The ability to communicate ideas, the ability to communicate challenges and obstacles that you have, is absolutely very, very important, not only if you’re trying to build a company and have a team, but they also need to be able to understand you and learn from you correctly. From a marketing sense, the ability to communicate the value of a product that you have, to communicate the potential or the opportunity in front of customers or potential customers, is absolutely how you win the game.

Some would call it sales, and some would call it marketing, but this is just communication. The ability to communicate what is in your head to the people listening or reading is the skill you need to master in order to move up in almost any role that you have.

There are a lot of reasons why someone might want to start their own business, and there are lots of ways to do it. But, in order to be a great entrepreneur, you need to work on two main skills: having high standards in anything you do and communication effectiveness. Some other clever thoughts you can hear from Ashton Shanks, CEO of Hemon Media Group, in Anatoliy Labinskiy’s Ecom Business Stream Podcast Episode 7.
